Managerial Carousel (Discussion)

chelseaFC saidWed, 04 Jun 2008 15:09:41 -0000 ( Link )

There has been no lack of action in regards to managers changing teams. Chelsea’s Avram Grant is gone and looking for work. The club is still searching for a successor. Manchester City fired Sven Goran Eriksson and then hired Mark Hughes away from Blackburn. Then we have the Manchester United soap opera with Alex Ferguson. Everyone wants to know when he will leave and who will take over.

It seems as though there isn’t much job security in this league. Whether you finish second in the league or last, you can expect the unexpected. I know these managers make a lot of money but what’s the point when the longevity is lacking. These jobs are the most difficult in the world.

What do you all think about the men in charge of these prestigious clubs? Do they deserve the vast amount of sume? Long term contracts?

I agree that the carousel going around nowadays is crazy. There’s no good solution though. Long term contracts don’t work- the management just erases them as soon as they want to and pay large sums of pointless money so that there’s no law suit. I mean, firing Grant was stupid, he took Chelsea to second place which isn’t so bad, it’s because the press were targeting him.
I don’t really care though. I’m not watching the game to see the guys standing on the lines and getting mad, I’m looking at where the ball goes. I really don’t think one manager is very different from the other, lately they all just play way too defensively so that they don’t lose. Whether they switch managers every game or stick with one for an entire season isn’t much of a concern anymore.

Great stuff mate, and I agree. Sometimes we place the managers ahead of all the other action. At the end of the day the players are the ones that make it happen and they should be given more credit. To me its like a never ending daytime show.

As much as I love Chelsea FC, I am not happy about the way they handled the hiring of Luiz Felipe Scolari. The club should have let Portugal finish the tournament before making such a move. It was blatant and timing was poor.

Manchester United’s Alex Ferguson will eventually leave and his replacement is in the air. This will only get bigger and bigger because of the significance of the position. The front man, Carlos Quieroz, seems likely to take the Portugal national side job. Quieroz wants the Man U job more than anything. This will be interesting to follow.

Not sure about who has more pressure on him. Alex Ferguson at Manchester United or Luiz Felipe Scolari at Chelsea. Ferguson has to deal with Cristiano Ronaldo and that alone has become a nightmare. How will he keep the team together and keep Ron happy?

Scolari must deliver the goods at Chelsea or he won’t last as long as he thinks. The pressure to deliver will be great for Scolari and he must be ready. Tough play either way.

I guess Everton’s boss David Moyes has the best odds at being sacked first in the Premier League. That is rather interesting considering Moyes has done a tremendous job at the club considering the circumstances. I am not buying the odds and believe Moyes will not be the first.

I guess the Special One continues to have a word in Chelsea’s affairs. He has been had words with new Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe. What I see is two men with big egos and no one wants to back down.

Whoever takes over the West Ham job will be under tight constraints because the club does not have the funds to spend on players. Its a great job but it has its downs as well. The upside is very limited.

I wonder who Newcastle will hire as their new manager because there will be further issues here. The club previously did not allow their manager to buy and sell the players he wanted so the mate left. I guess if you are interested in the title, you must abide by the rules otherwise adios.

The same can be said at West Ham because they do not want to spend money on players. They are a selling team and will have a hard time improving if they think not spending is acceptable this day and age in the EPL.

The race to find the appropriate replacements has begun rather quickly. The clubs have to make such a decision in a short period of time. In football, you need a manager and you need one asap….

Ramos won the Carling Cup and yet less than a year later, the mate is sacked because of the poor start. Tough life to live

Well, looks like Scolari’s out. I got a feeling that whoever replaced him won’t stay for next year, because if Chelsea doesn’t make it (and it’s not likely they will), he’ll get all the blame, kind of like what happened last year with Grant. What do you think?

Yes our boy Scolari was replaced because of the poor results. I often wonder when the players will take some blame. At the end of the day, the players place forth the effort despite the coaching.

Scolari was not the best choice but this isn’t the easiest job. Managers are on a short rope and it snaps quickly. Players should get blamed and I hope many of these overpaid bums are gone.

Gotta love Newcastle’s move, Alan Shearer is the new manager. He is getting a million for 8 games and another mill if he keeps the team up. Not too shabby.
